Karen and I have been talking about this amazing play-doh recipe I got from a Sister Munkholm when we lived in Saskie. It truly is awesome. not too sticky or stinky, or messy and it's super soft and lasts FOREVER! I know it's not "food" but it might just save your sanity on a boring day! Have fun!
*Makes about 2 1/2 cups of playdough
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon cooking oil, like canola or vegetable
4-6 drops food coloring
In a medium saucepan, combine the dry ingredients. In a 2-cup or larger liquid measuring cup, combine the water, oil, and food coloring. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan and forms a ball (it will be shaggy and messy looking). This should only take a few minutes.
On a lightly greased countertop, turn out the playdough and knead until smooth.

What's a good age for playdough? I think Emily would like to play with it... but she might like to eat it too.
ReplyDeletethanks krystyn! i was just getting sick of buying play doh and then it drying out so quickly.
ReplyDeletebriggs loves to play with play its one of his favourite things to do. if he stuffs it in his mouth i just throw it in the garbage! maybe that's why we go through so much play doh too! i let the boys push their cars around it in. for emily you could have some little animals from the dollar store that she could play in the play doh so she doesn't get bored with the it so quickly!
This is the exact playdough recipe i use too, and it takes forever to dry out!
ReplyDeleteThe 1st time i made it, i thought it would be weird cooking it and i thought i almost burnt it, but nope came out perfect!!
I finally made this play doh today! we have a "christmas list" and one of the things to do was to make play-doh with christmas colours. I can't believe how easy it was. for some reason I thought play doh was really hard to make and took a long time...which is why I haven't made it until now! This is a really great recipe!
